The following features and design conditions are not currently supported in LAVA:
King Posts
King post framing configurations are not analyzed or designed. Posts are only designed only for axial loads. The current workflow would be do model both a bearing wall and header to design the vertical loads with the header and bearing walls check both the vertical and out-of-plane wind loads.Joist Design
LAVA does not design floor or roof i-joists. You can model a single typical joist with a 2x lumber material to design a representative joist in that floor/roof area.Diaphragm Design
Floor and roof diaphragms are analyzed for load distribution, but diaphragm nailing, collectors, chords, and diaphragm strength are not designed by LAVA.Perpendicular Post Connections
Posts framing into other posts at perpendicular intersections are not analyzed as a combined support condition. Each post is analyzed independently.Eccentric Loading on Posts
Post design assumes concentric axial loading. Eccentric loading and the resulting bending effects are not considered.Snow Drift Loading
Snow drift loads are not automatically generated or applied. You can model additional snow loads onto a plate using the area loading tools.Diagonal Walls
Wall geometry is limited to orthogonal layouts. Diagonal or angled walls are not supported.
This section makes it easier for users to understand the current scope of LAVA's analysis and design capabilities when modeling wood-framed buildings.
